Runaway Love

dress- Forever 21, floral headband-DIY, velvet shrug- borrowed from my sister, sunglasses- Urban Outfitters, shoes- Joie via DSW, cuffs- Forever 21, blue ring- Urban Outfitters, lipstic-MAC chilli

Photos captured and edited by my lovely sister, Danielle LeBrun

These are the first set of stills from our Rad Bad Valentine motion picture lookbook.
In case you missed you can watch it here.
The outfit and concept for this particular look was heavily influenced by the flower children of the 60s, 90s teenage youth, the glossy pages of Nylon Magazine, pondering thoughts and escaping into nature.
Danielle did a great job capturing the spirit and mood of the concept for this look.

Want to know what the photographer, Danielle has to say about this look?
Danielle has a background and schooling in graphic design, which has influenced her sharp eye for cutting edge trends.

Here is what Danielle has to say about this Runaway Love concept...
This look took inspiration from the moodiness during the 90's, which was very cool, bold and romantic in an understated way. The 90's felt like a new-age Renaissance - fashion, music, food, culture - everything was in a perpetual remix at the time.
Fashion was totally reinvented too. Celebrities like Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain took very traditional prints (i.e. floral, stripes, dots, plaid) and presented them with a dark and fresh twist.
This is essentially what we tried to capture in this outfit and film segment: romance that evoked something mysterious, yet adventurous and new. Kind of like a Maxfield Perish painting or Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet - only with a quirky, modern edge.

Check back tomorrow for the next set of photo stills from the motion picture lookbook!

DIY Mason Jar Floral Arrangements

I'm lucky because my mom is an amazing Floral Designer.
I got to accompany her to the flower market last week and pick out the flowers for our Thanksgiving dinner table.
I wanted to go for more vibrant and cheerful colors that were more unexpected than the usual Thanksgiving subdued neutrals.

DIY Mason Jar Floral Arrangements

You will need:
Mason Jars and Raffia to tie around the Mason Jar
 Flowers of your choice.
Our main flowers were: (from left to right)
Hot Lady Roses
Red Celosia
Thistle
Hypericum Berry
Billy Balls
Dried Wheat
Dried Oak Leaves
Set up all the Mason Jars you want to use and just start filling them in with the flowers.
I started by placing about four roses into each Mason Jar, since the roses are the fullest flower to start the foundation of the arrangement.
Then choose another flower to add, and start placing that flower into all the jars.
Once you have put all the options of flowers into the jar, you can go back through the arrangements and add more where needed.
Clearly my Thanksgiving outfit was inspired by these festive floral arrangements!
Our dining room table has a really unique feature--a canyon carved out in the middle of it.
This 'canyon' is perfect to place floral arrangements inside.
The Mason Jars added the perfect touch to keep the table rustic and unique.
Hope you enjoyed this little DIY!
The great thing is that you can make any type of arrangement in Mason Jars--just follow what inspires your for colors, textures and style!

Autumn Brights & DIY Autumn head wreath

For Thanksgiving I was definitely inspired by Autumn brights instead of the standard earthy, neutrals.  I absolutely love this Aztec print knit tunic from Threadsence.  I can tell it will come in handy all year long.
The warm colors in this outfit felt very festive and cheerful which is exactly what I was going for.

DIY Autumn Head Wreath
This DIY head wreath seriously could not be any easier!
I knew I really wanted a head garland for Thanksgiving--I wanted to feel like a forest Autumn wood fairy!
I didn't have a lot of time so I went to Michaels and bought some decorative wire garland already made.
Since it had wire in it already this was the fastest DIY ever.

I simply measured the strand of garland around my head and cut the wire the length it would fit around my head.
Then I took the ends of the wire and twisted each side around each other.
Then voila! You have a head garland.
In the future when I have more time I will definitely add more pieces to the garland.
Or you can start from scratch with wire, then add pieces along the garland of your choice.

Check back later today for a DIY on floral Mason Jar center pieces.

Spring Flowers & Ribbon Braids

(top-LuLus, jacket-Anthropologie,jeans-Citizens of Humanity, necklace/sunnies-Urban Outfitters, earrings-Vintage, braids-DIY)
I love making these ribbon braids.
They are so feminine and I couldn't resist putting some fresh flowers from the garden around the braid to make the perfect Spring crown.
Happy Cinco De Mayo! Arriba!

Fresh Pink

-photos by Danielle-
On the drive back from Sonoma we stopped at this fruit stand to get some fresh fruits for our Easter Brunch.
I love all the signs and colors around this fruit stand and how they complement my outfit.
My DIY ribbon braids were inspired from Refinery 29's post on Rachel Roy's Fall '11 show here.
I didn't want do an updo, so I made it more of a braided crown which made me feel like a medieval princess.
I LOVE this hot pink Zara skirt--it is the perfect Summer piece to brighten your day!

From Berkeley to Japan

(top/skirt-Gap, shoes-Sam Edelman, purse-DIY,sash-thrift,rings-thrift/vintage)
-All photos by Brittany from Work It, Berk-
I went to Berkeley and met up wtih the super sweet Brittany from Work It, Berk and she was so sweet to feature me on her blog here.
We went onto campus and found this lovely patch of Cherry Blossom trees which seemed fitting for the Japan Tshirt I was wearing.
Representing ONE LOVE from Berkeley to Japan--I wore my Japan Tshirt from Gap where the profits from the Tshirt are donated to the GlobalGiving Japan Relief fund.
You can buy the Japan shirts from Gap here.
There hasn't been a day that has gone by where I havn't thought about Japan and the hardships they have faced.  I am proud to wear this Tshirt in support of Japan and as a reminder of the small ways we can help.
Peace and Love!

Queen of Hearts

(lace top-H&M, skirt-UO,tights-Gap,earrings/purse-Kate Spade, necklace-DIY, shoes-Chuck Taylors,sunglasses-Wasteland)

Happy Valentine's Day!
I made this necklace in spirit of the Queen of Hearts--and created hearts out of cards.
I was going to wear my super high Jeffrey Campbell Lita's, but embraced being super comfortable in my Chucky T's--which also allowed me to tip toe around swans, and frolic through the Palace of Fine Arts as though I was the Queen of the castle!

DIY Sunday

Aren't you sew in love with these DIY Valentine's Day cards?
Papersource has this awesome DIY stitched heart card kit that you can get to make these cards for your Valentine.
These cards are fun to make and have such a special handmade crafty touch.
The kit has four different heart designs you can make, but I personally love the crazy heart with the random stitches.
Even though he might hate for me to admit, Mario (my Valentine) made the last card in red and purple.
We enjoyed making these while listening to crazy rap music before we went out for our Sat night.
