I have to say I was beyond pleased with the fit of this dress!  I mean, what girl doesn't want a flattering dress to feel great?  I adore the subtle heart shaped neckline and how it is nicely fitted through the bust and torso.  This dress has so much to love about it--color blocking, knife pleats on the skirt and a layered ruffled hem underneath--swoon!  Not to mention the dress comes with the yellow belt too.
I love how flirty this dress is and the hidden ruffled layered hem makes me want to twirl around and show it off.

Rad and Refined

Hello friends!
I want to introduce to you one of my rad sponsors and a very cool new online store called, Rad and Refined.   This online shop has a cool mix of  apparel and accessories that are Vintage or modern brands such as  Mink Pink, Wildfox Couture and sunglasses from Opening Ceremony.  Jacqueline Rezak is a 24 year old genius who started this online shop...and let me tell you her own personality along with the site is full of spunk, and of course rad imagery.  I absolutely love these cool images she uses in her lookbook while incorporating bright colors and graphic geometric shapes into the image--they are super fresh and creative!
I LOVE this leather fringe bag from Rad and Refined.  It is exactly what I need as an edgy, stylish and funky (or I guess I should say RAD) bag.  I have already worn this bag so much and it is perfect for nights out or on the weekends.  It reminds me of the ultimate bag to wear to concerts and outdoor music festivals...and now that I have the bag I need to follow through with one of my new year's resolutions... to go to more concerts (hehe).

Get to know Jacqueline Rezak behind Rad and Refined below with some questions she answered for me.
What motivated you to start Rad and Refined?
I have always loved expressing my creativity through art which included of course fashion. I studied fashion and journalism in college and that is when I started my blog which was influenced by my favorite styles of rad combined with refined. From there I moved from Chicago to LA where I have been lucky enough to work with celebrity stylists, photographers, make up artists etc. Once I settled into LA I began my online store Rad and Refined which is based on my blog idea. It combines the two styles together in one store.
Your graphics are super catchy and awesome. What is your inspiration behind these memorable images?
I style the images that go onto our graphics, photos taken by two amazing photographers- Tory Mundkowsky and Vijat Mohindra. From there I work with my web designer to make sure our photos capture the idea of being and looking Rad while still being identifiable with all women.
What are you most excited about with Rad and Refined?
There is so much to be excited about! Things have been moving along so quickly, but I love using my style inspiration of rad and refined and putting the actual style in my head to life through the site and photos.

AND GUESS WHAT?
Rad and Refined is offering Hourglass readers 15% off your entire purchase!

Spring is Sweet

top- J.Crew, skirt- bought in Italy years ago, bag-Louis Vuitton, shoes- BCBG (old), earrings- Vintage,
necklace-J.Crew

Fun fact- I got this skirt about ten years ago when I went on a family trip to Italy.  For some reason I kept it all these years and could never part with it, even though I haven't worn in the last ten years until now.  This skirt happens to be super on trend right now with the graphic floral and geometric combination...I'm so glad I kept it!
I'm loving sweet colors and print combinations right now.  Nothing feels more appropriate for Spring than some sugary sweet candy-coated colors mixed together to create a girly and feminine concoction.  Mixing floral prints in my shawl and skirt also give the look a sweet and cozy layered feel.  I don't know about you but I am so looking forward to warmer weather this Spring!

For those of you not from San Francisco, these photos were taken at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco which is a magical and beautiful place--one of my city favorites!

Queen of Hearts

dress- c/o Kaj.Ani, fringe shawl/hair bows- Forever 21, shoes- hand me down from mom, necklace-Vintage

Photos by Danielle LeBrun

This painted silk dress designed by Kaj.Ani is so incredibly cool and versatile.  It can go from sweet and feminine to edgy girly grunge with black ankle motorcycle boots and a fringe black shawl.  Ani is a very talented designer who hand made this lovely dress, and you can shop her site here.

Here is what the photographer (and my sister) has to say about this look.
This was our (Andy + Me) favorite look and scene! We pulled inspiration from Sophia Coppola films like Marie Antoinette, the glossy pages of Nylon Mag, Alice in Wonderland and the concept of a 90's hilltop tea-party. Jackie captured the vision perfectly in her styling and natural sugar&spice personality! We had quite an experience during this scene - the sun was literally setting as we frantically designed the set and captured shots - but it came together perfectly right at magic hour. It was an exciting rush shooting this look - a perfect way to end our 90s Rad Bad Valentine LookBook!

Check out our motion picture lookbook here, and the other sets of stills here, here and here.
Happy Valentine's Day! Hope your and heart day is filled with love today and always!
XO
Jackie

Wild at Heart

tights- Urban Outfitters, shoes- c/o LuLus.com, lace top/denim vest- Forever 21, cream lace top-Banana Republic, black sequin skirt/beanie- borrowed from my sister, heart sunglasses- Wasteland, belt- Vintage

Photography by Danielle LeBrun (my rad and talented sister)

This look and concept was heavily influenced by the skater craze of the 90s, a nd believe it or not I was even a skater girl myself in the 90s.  I didn't do much other than chill and skate around on my awesome board with Venture light trucks, but back then I thought I was pretty rad whenever I was skating around.
Danielle helped assist styling this outfit to make sure it was pulled together and fit well with the other looks in our motion picture lookbook.
I love these crazy floral print tights and how the Lulu*s sparkly insane platforms give the outfit a very skater-Harajuku feel.  This part of the video was all about having fun and being young and crazy and care free.  Back in the day we all did a lot of hanging around parking lots, going to 7-11 to get slurpees and hanging with our homies...but most of all having fun together.

In case you were wondering... the dude in the photos is the mastermind cinematographer/director behind our motion picture lookbook, and he also happens to be my sister's loving boyfriend...Hi Andrew!

Check out our motion picture lookbook here, and the other sets of stills here and here.
Stay tuned for one more set of stills from our Valentine inspired video.

Love Sick

dress- c/o Telltale Hearts, vest- Crossroads Trading Co., boots- Joie via DSW, hat/belt-Vintage, gloves-Vintage, tights-Nordstrom

Photos captured by the multi-talented Danielle LeBrun (my sister)

These photos are the second set of stills from our motion picture lookbook.
In case you missed the video check it out here, and the first set of stills here.

Let's talk about how rad this dress is.  So rad it's bad...in a good way, or naughty way I guess.  The dress is by Telltale Hearts (who is also my awesome new blog sponsor!).  Telltale Hearts has an insanely awesome online Vintage store and a shop in LA that I dream of visiting one day.  Their selection of Vintage treasures is incredibly well thought out, as interesting details can be found on every single item they offer.  Check out their super cool Vintage online shop here.

The concept and look for this outfit was heavily influenced by the girly grunge fashion of the 90s pioneered by the queen of grunge herself, Courtney Love.  This Vintage dress was the perfect starting point for the girly grunge look.  It's silhouette is short and flirty, and the knit fabric allows it to be effortlessly cool.  The sweet, soft floral print on the dress is contrasted by tiny cut outs allover making it instantly edgy and unique.  The cut out trend is starting to blow up, and you can see me in another cut out dress here.

My amazing find at Crossroads Trading Co.--the black leather studded  vest, was the perfect layering piece to give the look a more rock 'n' roll vibe.  Adding black pieces everywhere else definitely helped deepen the mood of this look.

And yes, these photos/this part of the motion picture lookbook were filmed at a cemetery.
Creepy, romantic or dark and twisted?...I'll let you be the judge!

Runaway Love

dress- Forever 21, floral headband-DIY, velvet shrug- borrowed from my sister, sunglasses- Urban Outfitters, shoes- Joie via DSW, cuffs- Forever 21, blue ring- Urban Outfitters, lipstic-MAC chilli

Photos captured and edited by my lovely sister, Danielle LeBrun

These are the first set of stills from our Rad Bad Valentine motion picture lookbook.
In case you missed you can watch it here.
The outfit and concept for this particular look was heavily influenced by the flower children of the 60s, 90s teenage youth, the glossy pages of Nylon Magazine, pondering thoughts and escaping into nature.
Danielle did a great job capturing the spirit and mood of the concept for this look.

Want to know what the photographer, Danielle has to say about this look?
Danielle has a background and schooling in graphic design, which has influenced her sharp eye for cutting edge trends.

Here is what Danielle has to say about this Runaway Love concept...
This look took inspiration from the moodiness during the 90's, which was very cool, bold and romantic in an understated way. The 90's felt like a new-age Renaissance - fashion, music, food, culture - everything was in a perpetual remix at the time.
Fashion was totally reinvented too. Celebrities like Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain took very traditional prints (i.e. floral, stripes, dots, plaid) and presented them with a dark and fresh twist.
This is essentially what we tried to capture in this outfit and film segment: romance that evoked something mysterious, yet adventurous and new. Kind of like a Maxfield Perish painting or Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet - only with a quirky, modern edge.

Check back tomorrow for the next set of photo stills from the motion picture lookbook!

Rad Bad Valentine. A Motion Picture LookBook. xoxo

RAD BAD VALENTINE!
I hope you are inspired by this fashion video that our creative team is coining 'Motion Picture LookBook’.
I was inspired by the 90s, teenage youth, Valentine’s Day and the ultimate free feeling of being young, girly and having fun.

Andrew Provost was the mastermind Cinematographer, Editor and Director behind this project.
Andrew exceeded my expectations to mold my inspiration and vision into a creative reality, and he really brought to life the spirit of what I was inspired to create.
I am very grateful to get to work with such an incredibly talented and creative film expert.

Danielle (my sister), the Art Director/Photographer wrote the below overview on our project.

Rad Bad Valentine
Description:
A fashion-infused MotionPicture LookBook that celebrates a fresh take on Valentine's Day.

Inspiration:
Inspiration came from our muse: Jackie LeBrun of Hourglass Fashion. The goal was to create a Valentine's video, but instead of the typical soft-romantic tone with motifs of love letters and hearts, we wanted to depict something raw, something honest. In the video, Jackie represents the modern gal in love with life. She's adventurous, bold and independent, sometimes a little messy and a little wild. Why should that change on Valentine's Day? It shouldn't.
We pulled inspiration from 90's grunge, the rush of having a crush, modern youth and sugar-highs, as well as fashion icons like Courtney Love and Karen O.

Creative Crew:
Jackie LeBrun: Stylist, Fashion Director, Project Leader and all around Muse
Danielle LeBrun: Art Direction, Creative Management, Photographer
Andrew Provost: Media Director, Cinematographer, Editor

MotionPicture / LookBook:
We've coined the term MotionPicture LookBook because that is exactly what these videos are: A collection of fashion trends and concepts captured on film. We present a point-of-view on fashion and culture through film, music and story.  The goal is to inspire the viewer and communicate street-style fashion in a fresh way.  We love making them and have many more in the works!

I hope you are inspired and excited to check back this week to see more details from the video.
This project was SO much fun to work on and I can't wait to make many more motion picture lookbooks! xoxo

Stay tuned this week for still photos and outfit posts from each of these looks.

Black & White, Dot & Stripe

top/necklace- H&M, skirt- Urban Outfitters, shoes- Jeffrey Campbell, hat-Vintage, tights-Gap, belt- Vintage, bracelet- J.Crew

I love mixing patterns any day of the week, and especially dots and stripes.
However, with the focused and classic black and white palette the mixed prints feel even more exciting and interesting.
Black and white lets prints speak for themselves and allows a harmonious contrast to be made in my opinion.
Plus black/white prints always have a 60s retro pop-art flair which always makes my heart melt into gooey 60s nostalgia.
XO
P.S. I will be debuting my motion picture look book this week, soooo get excited!!!

Cut. It. Out. (in my LuLus.com dress)

dress- c/o LuLus, belt/earrings/bangle- Forever 21, shoes- Zara, bag- gift from Australia, sunglasses-Urban Outfitters, jacket- Theory, necklace- Vintage

This 'paper snowflake' dress from LuLus.com is so cool.
Cut out details are definitely trending...so be on the lookout for cool new and innovative ways of this detail out there.
It was my sister Danielle who brought to my attention that the 'cut out' was a huge trend after we looked at a handful of fancy foreign magazines.
We flipped through about a dozen magazines and pulled out trends that we saw repeated over and over.
I'lI to share some of the other trends we collected in another post.
I love how the fit of the dress is quite simple, but the detailed cut outs along the neckline, back, sleeves and hemline make it so interesting.
Here are some more dresses with the cut out trend from LulLu's here, here and here.
